The 2nd International Conference on Engineering Sciences and Energy (ICGE 2024) was held from April 17–19, 2024, at Warith Al-Anbiya University in Karbala, Iraq. This major scientific event continued the mission established by the 2023 inaugural conference — strengthening international cooperation in the fields of civil engineering, geotechnics, and sustainable energy.
Organized in partnership with Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU, Russia), the Iraqi Scientific Geotechnical Society (ISGS), and Warith Al-Anbiya University (Iraq), the conference gathered over 700 participants from multiple countries. Researchers, engineers, and academics exchanged insights on the latest advances in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, energy systems, and sustainable infrastructure.
More than 260 scientific papers were submitted for peer review, with 202 accepted and presented during the three-day event. The conference sessions covered a broad range of topics, including:
The SPbPU delegation, representing Russia, actively contributed to plenary sessions and workshops, sharing research on soil stabilization, geotechnical modeling, and structural innovations. Their participation underscored the importance of scientific exchange and technical cooperation between the two nations.
As part of the cultural and scientific exchange program, the delegation visited the historic city of Babylon, one of the world’s oldest centers of civilization. The visit symbolized the unity between ancient engineering heritage and modern scientific achievement — a bridge connecting the past and the future of engineering collaboration.
The conference concluded with a shared commitment to expand academic and research cooperation through joint publications, student exchanges, and future scientific events. Together, these initiatives will enhance the global presence of both Iraqi and Russian engineering communities, contributing to sustainable and innovative infrastructure worldwide.
